Like many of you I was shocked to learn that a chemical present in most hair dyes has recently caused the death of a 17 year old girl and plunged a 38 year old woman into a coma which she has only an 8% chance of surviving. Please take a moment to click on this link and read the story, so you can do what you can to protect yourself. http://www.healthzone.ca/health/newsfeatures/research/article/1090405--hair-dye-ingredient-linked-to-coma-death We are told that home hair dyes are safe, and then this happens. These cases occurred in the UK but the chemical in question, paraphenylenediamine, or PPD, is present in 2/3 of hair dyes including those sold in Canada. More must be done to ensure that these commonly used products are safe for unsuspecting consumers. Please be sure you do a patch test each time you colour, as sensitivity can build up through repeated exposure. Also keep in mind that wigs are non-invasive, chemical-free and totally safe. They may not take the place of your coloured hair but by reducing the amount of times you colour you can prevent the buildup of sensitivity to PPD.
