Toronto Wigs: Not Just for Halloween!

A funny or frightening wig is a key part of a many Halloween costumes, but at Hair and Wigs we are in the business of high quality hairpieces. Here are a few tricks to keep your everyday wig looking a treat.

1. The Right Size: A wig that is too large looks "wiggy", and is a dead giveaway. A wig that is too small will cause discomfort and headaches, and you may find yourself inadvertently touching and shifting it around during the day (also a giveaway, as real hair does not shift and move!). That's why its important to measure your head before buying a wig. I talk about how to measure your head in a previous blog.

2. The Right Cut: Sometimes a wig will have much more hair than your natural hair. If you have thinning hair this may be what you're looking for, but it can go too far. If the wig has the fullness of a teenagers hair, and you are more advanced in years than that, it may look fake. Consider having the wig thinned at a salon, and cut to suit your face. Think back to the best haircut and style you ever had, and try to make the wig match that - with, perhaps, a more modern twist.

3. The Right Colour: A wig is a great opportunity to effortlessly try a new colour, but if it does not complement you, consider a hue closer to your natural hair colour. Nature generally does a good job of matching our complexion and hair. You can always be a bleach blonde for Halloween - Marilyn Monroe costumes never go out of style!

4. The Right Care: Make sure to wash your wig with the proper shampoo, and to fully air dry on a wig stand. I talk about caring for your wig in a previous blog.
