Not all of us are like Niki Minaj or Lady Gaga when it comes to our wigs. Those ladies are out and proud with their costume do's, proclaiming their love of wigs to all the world. But the average man or woman who wears a wig to conceal hair loss due to alopeica or cancer treatments, or as a quick and affordable way to keep their hair looking perfect ever day, some discretion may be in order. Here are some tips to keep anyone from knowing your beautifully styled hair is actually a wig. Choose the right hair thickness for your age: Wearing a wig with the density of a teenager’s hair when you’re 40 will most likely result in people noticing that it’s not your real hair. Choose a wig that resembles your current hair thickness or, if you are losing hair, the thickness of a typical person your age Choose the right colour: A wig is a great opportunity to test drive a new colour without commitments, and changing things up can be lots of fun. However remember nature does a good job of matching our skin and hair colour, and if you want to look natural you should choose a colour that complements you, just as you would if you were dying your hair that colour. Buy a Human Hair Wig: Synthetic wigs are fun for parties, and a high quality synthetic wig does a passable job, but if you really want a natural look there is no substitute for a monofilament cap Human Hair wig. "Monofilament" means that the strands are individually hand-tied to the cap, creating an undetectable hairline. Monofilament cap wigs can be parted any way without revealing the cap, and can even be pulled into updo's and ponytails and still look real. Try doing that with a synthetic wig! Furthermore, Human Hair wigs are just that- real human hair. The movement and shine of the hair is totally natural and no one will know your beautiful head of hair is not the one you were born with. If a Human Hair wig is out of your price range try a Human Hair/Synthetic blend such as the Sarah . Care for Your Wig: A tangled, dried out, matted wig is a dead giveaway. Wigs can easily become damaged if they’re not properly washed, dried, combed and preserved. Always use a special shampoo to clean your wig – never use regular hair products! Properly drying your wig is also important and you should avoid leaving it to dry in direct sunlight. Wigs should be air dried, preferably while on a wig stand that will preserve the shape of the wig and prevent tangling. When you are travelling make sure you keep your wig in a special box – this will also preserve its shape and prevent tangling.
